Hi all

Well I have paid for the kit and await delivery, what are you guys going to use this for? Lighting, Heating, Security.

Has anybody had any ideas about ancillary circuits or got any unusual ideas. This whole home automation is a subject I think I could get very interested in.

Regards, Tony

Hi

Hmm good question - I'm going to use it to control my network equipment and a server box. I had situations where the server has crashed and needed to remotely restart it... I may just buy 8 channel relay board and connect it to the digibuttler to control more than one device...

I've already built my TBLCF device and can't wait for the delivery of the DigiButtler kit I'm hoping it's going to be this week. I've ordered my kit very early. It's going to be my first 32-bit controller project. I've done lots of projects with 8051 family of 8 bit micros, all in assembly. Now it's time for some C programming and I can't wait!!

Thanks
Kris

Hi,
I have built the TBLCF kit using the uC(MC908JB16JDWE) that I got as free sample from Freescale, but I am unable to load the firmware in the uC, though I followed the steps given in the documentation both in the Digibutler article and in the TBLCF manual (Rev 1.4). Can anyone guide me on this?
Thanks.

Is you computer detecting a new USB device once you plug it in?

I had simillar problem with my unit. I coudn't get it to work. The probem was tha oscillator woudn't start. It only started working when I removed R1 and used my finger (touched the bottom of the pcb) while plugging it into the usb socket. This suggests that R1 has to be changed, but I've not had a chance to experiment with R1 values. Try using smaller (eg 5.7M) and see if it's any better.

Thanks
Kris

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the tip, which you have also posted in Freescale's forum. Its not being detected even after trying out different values of R1. Checked with a CRO and found oscillator functioning properly. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I've replied to you on the Freescale forum, but just if any one else is having simillar problems:

"Can't really think of anything else...As mentioned above my circuit was dead as well, couldn't get it to work. I than prepared another one and by accident missed R1. The new circuit didn't work as well. Than I touched the board while plugging it in and it sprang to life! Making me very happy. Since than I have to touch the board in the oscillator area to get it to start. I was blaming R1 - but it may be something else - it's just I didn't have a chance to look into it.
In your case, as long as the oscillator is working, and you USB connection is fine it should work without a problem... Are you using USB socket on the board or have you soldered the cable into the board?"

Thanks
Kris

hi Kris,

different brands of quartz crystal (Y1, 12 MHz) may require optimising the values of C1 and C2 to get the oscillator to start reliably. Try slightly higher values for these caps.
We've just built a few TBLCFs in the Elektor lab and they all work fine.

BTW an article explaining the steps to program the empty DigiButler board using a TBLCF and the Elektor software archive 071102-11 will be published in the July/August 2008 issue.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not desperate to get it to work as it kind of wokrs - just need to "kick-start" it with my finger I will have a look later to see if I can get the thing to work normally... Plus I still don't have my kit, so the TBLCF unit is not use yet.

Jan, do you know when the kit ships? I was hoping it's going to be this week, but still no sign ?

Thanks
Kris

hi Kris,

the supply of the programmed boards to go in our kits has been delayed by one more week, so we're now looking at arrival at Elektor during week 22.
There's a vast back order list (approx. 400 units) so actual shipments will run into week 23. Sorry for the inconvenience, we're doing our best to supply the kits a.s.a.p.

regards,
Jan
