I lashed out for the Explorer 16 setup and am very happy with what I got. However, I am finding it a bit expensive to follow up on the demos because the extras are expensive as a one-off. For instance, the PICTail SD & MMC card is a very reasonable £20, but is doubled by the time the handling fee and the freightage from Taiwan is included. I still went ahead and ordered. Then I checked the article again and found that I needed an SMD edge connector in order to plug in both SD and audio PICTail devices for Demo4. That's a very reasonable £5.75, but, for a one-off from the Stateside supplier that goes up to £27.75 which is a little steep for a socket.

Since the Explorer 16 has been one of the outrageously successful Elektor projects, it would be nice if the mag. could get some of these parts into the Elektor shop listings.

Hello royleith,

I know how you feel about the cost of postage.
I live in South Africa and bought the "SpYder Discovery Kit" for only 6.45, but the postage was 8.00.. Hmm.. The postman makes all the profit!

Are there no electronic shops in Taiwan with the connector you need? If you are willing to wait two weeks, most shops will bring in single items with there bulk orders.

Good luck with your Explorer-16, may you have many happy hours with it.

Cheers,
Tim

P.S. Are you the same "royleith" on Amigaworld.net too?

I bet there are. Problem is that it was the DHL charges from Taiwan to the UK that caused the problem in the first place. I tried to source the connector in the UK, but with no luck.

What's a nice Amigan like you doing in a place like this?

Regards
Roy
