hi
I test this design to proteus 7.2sp2.

It is working but the LCD displays nothing.

According to datasheet of AT89C52
http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc0313.pdf:

"Port 0 is an 8-bit open drain bi-directional I/O port..."

When I put pullups to proteus the LCD is displaying normally the
messages.

I'm wondering how the original design drives correctly the LCD
without pullups.
