Q2. Can I use the module with a PDA?
In principle, yes, but you will require a driver program for the USB-GPS chip. So far, the manufacturer only supplies drivers for Windows CE and Linux. These are available on request from FTDI.
If the PDA employs Windows CE or Linux, and has a USB port, then the module can be connected to the PDA.

I haven't used this kit with a pda but have got a similar device working. If you remove the usb-serial chip ( FT232BM ) you are left with 5volt ttl level tx and rx signals, add in a MAX232 chip to convert these to +-15V RS232 levels and they will then connect to a pda such as the Compaq 3630 I use. I have the Inforad 'usb' gps mouse with integrated speed camera alert software. Although it has a usb B socket on the side to output nmea data @ 4800bps it turned out to have a FT232BM chip in the usb A plug body , so the output was serial ttl same as your kit.

Pete
